This week we started by discussing how we would code specific studies using themes, which lead us into a quick review of qualitative and quantitative research studies. We also discussed what positive and negative correlation looks like on a scatterplot and how correlation does not equal causation. We also looked at two scientific studies and how those are related to pop psychology and then we questioned if that was actually good science. For HW this week complete the rest of Unit 1. Including the Study Guide. We will study for our test next week in class and then have a test on 9/28. Also finish up the Action in Pychology page about the scientific studies.
Today was so, so good! I love this class. We had a great time talking about various research methods (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, etc) and data collection types (focus groups, interviews, surveys, etc.) It was a great discussion of the different types, what types appeal to us as researchers and why, and evaluating those research methods. For HW this week, we're finishing up Unit 1, so complete everything through page 14 in the workbook. Remember to annotate, highlight, notes, etc. Make it awesome! We will discuss our first test when we come back from break (we won't have it then, but we'll talk about some options).
Today we built our binders out and did some discussion of what psychology actually means. We also did a few ranking our thoughts and determining the odd one out with psychological concepts. For HW students need to read and annotate their binder (I believe it was just pages 1-4). Moving forward, I will only be posting in the google classroom for this class.
