Today we read a picture book about an artist named Kandinksy who had a neurological superpower called synesthesia. We observed some of his art and then started making our own art in a similar style, but integrating mathematical concepts!
Today we finished up our time working on our Kandinsky projects. It was fun to see some students work diligently to do their best art work. When we return from Labor Day (next Monday is off), we will begin our Lemonade War STEAM projects!
Today we worked on our communication and social skills by participating in a STEAM build round robin. Students had to stay at each station for 7 minutes. Then, when they rotated, they had to build on to what was already started from the previous team. Everyone did GREAT! I heard a ton of great conversations!
Today we learned about radial symmetry in citrus fruit and we also learned about an art process called printmaking! We had so much fun!
One of my favorite lines in Winston Breen is "Puzzles are everywhere if you look hard enough." Today we started working on "painting" with yarn. This is a very cool art project and there are so many artists in the group this year. We started by practicing our measuring skills by measuring out multiple lengths of different colors of yarn. Next week, we will use this to "paint" on contact paper. We will continue to incorporate math here with perimeter, area, and geometric shapes.
Today we integrated our yarn cutting and measuring from last week and "painted" with them on contact paper. We discussed organic and inorganic shapes and geometry. We also discussed art terms like balance and design. The students did AMAZING with these! I was very impressed with the creative designs I saw!
Today we started our symmetical pizzas by making a paper mandala and noticing the repeated patterns. We talked about repetition and congruence!
Today we added on a layer of our pizza prints. We continued to work on consistency and congruence.
We almost have everyone at the printmaking stage for our pizza mandalas! Hopefully by next week we should be able to start printing!
Today, some of us printed our radial symmetry pizza and they turned out BEAUTIFUL!
