1/14/2021-Today, we got our new workbooks for the second semester. We'll be taking a zoomed in look with a European lens for pretty much the entire semester. We know that other things were going on the world, but Europe was really flourishing at this time and Europe also greatly influenced the Americas, so we'll be camped out there for much of the semester. We discussed the three major concepts of the Renaissance and how the Renaissance differed from the Middle Ages.
For HW:
Please complete the graphic organizer we started in class. You can use the sites below as sources.
Also complete pages 1-6 in your workbook.

Renaissance Sources:

If you would like to earn extra credit points on your test grade, you may complete up to 25 points to be added on. Select your points from here.

10/8-Today we took a test over the material we have covered thus far. Because everyone is a super, brilliant test-taker, we were also able to get in a few rounds of Listography. When we return from break, we'll have a weapons lab!

10/1-Today, we played Listography, which was great fun! For HW, please complete everything in the workbook up to Eleanor of Aquitaine and study for our in class test next week! The test will cover everything from the beginning of the course until Eleanor. Don't hesitate to message me if you need help in the meantime!

12/10- We played a review game to prepare for our test next week. Complete the room escape to further your review. Make sure you know as much as possible from your notebook (Eleanor of Aquitaine to the Reconquista). I will also be checking notebooks at that time, so please make sure you have no blank sections and you have answered fully and completely!

DECEMBER 3rd-VIRTUAL CLASS-We will not be meeting in a real-time session. Instead, you can work on this until we meet again (which will hopefully be 12/10). Since we are moving to virtual, our test will also move to 12/17 instead of 12/10. I will also check notebooks at that time, so make sure you have EVERYTHING in your notebook complete. Our test on 12/17 will cover everything from Eleanor of Aquitaine to the Reconquista (which should be your last page).

Watch the following videos about The Hundred Years War, Joan of Arc (this is a long documentary, so you may want to split it up), and The Reconquista.

11/19-Today, we completed an Alphaboxes page about the Black Death. We'll use this when we return to make a small alphabet book, so don't lose this page! When we return from break, we'll review for our test!

UPCOMING DATES:

11/12 Today we played a co-op game about the Black Plague. Please do the Black Plague pages for homework. Also watch the following:

4/29-Today, we played LeapFrog as a review for our final exam. The final is a take home final and can be completed online. You may use your notebook for guidance, but you may not plagiarize. I will have to manually add in these grades, so once you complete the online test, the test will indicate that you got the questions wrong. I will grade these and have them ready for you by next week, which is our last day of class!

4/22-Today we learned about several different explorers and the European countries for whom they sailed. We also learned about their motivations (mostly economic) to travel to the "New World." We also played history Eliminators. For HW, please finish up your workbook. We will review next week and then take our final test next week (covering everything from this semester).

4/15/2021-Today, we learned more about Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton. For HW, please complete page 54-55 (with a thorough paragraph) and also complete the writing assignments (If I Weres) which we learned about and practiced in class.

4/8/2021-We went over the Scientific Revolution sections (Kepler & Galileo). We also made a continuum of heroes/villains from The Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution. HW: pg. 51-53 (Bacon, Descartes, and Newton)

4/1/2021-Today, we took a pop quiz about the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation. We also reviewed Henry VIII and the War of the Roses.

For HW, please complete: -Scientific Revolution-Kepler-Galileo

3/25/2021-We went over the Counter-Reformation, which is how the Catholic Church fought back against the Protestant Reformation. Then, we played Five in a Row. Please make sure you know all the answers to the questions on the game board as these might come up on the next test! For HW: Please complete -I Am Henry the VIII, I Am!-Rise of the Tudor Family (War of the Roses)

3/11/2021-Everyone got their test back and we went over those. For HW over break, please complete everything in the Reformation section of your workbook, but stop at the "Counter-Reformation" section.

3/4/2021-We took our test in class today. I'll have those graded and returned next week. For HW, please complete the Protestant Reformation section of the workbook (pg. 27-30) and watch the Crash Course.

2/25/2021-Today in class, we reviewed Gutenberg, Machiavelli, and Henry the Navigator. Then, we played Spoons using review concepts for the Renaissance. We'll have a test next week, so your HW for this week is to review and study and make sure that ALL PAGES of your notebook are complete up to the Reformation. Make sure you have complete sentences as answers and you have written full paragraphs where the directions ask.

2/18/2021-VIRTUAL CLASS- Make sure you have completed all the sections in the first part of the workbook (up to the Reformation). Learn about Gutenberg, Machiavelli, and Prince Henry the Navigator (sorry, no good video for that guy!).When we come back to class, we will have a review day and then a test (it may or may not be a take home test). Remember that test day is also notebook check day, so make sure your notebook is up to date and completed!

2/11/2021-We shared our paragraphs about Shakespeare today and most had a pretty good biographical sketch. However, the assignment required students to explain the impact of Shakespeare on history and not everyone was able to do that. During class, we discussed Festivals of the Renaissance, especially Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season, as this is coming up relatively soon. For HW , please complete the Famous People of the Renaissance section covering Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Shakespeare.

2/4/2021-Today, we watched the theatre class perform three "riffs" on Shakespeare plays. This was perfect timing as we have been studying about Shakespeare. We briefly discussed how Shakespeare wrote plays "for the people" in the language of the people. For HW, finish anything you did not finish from last week. In addition, write a simple paragraph explain Shakespeare's impact on history.
