This course is designed to explore the messiness of writing! We’ll spend class time working on generating ideas and brainstorming, which will act as a springboard for future writings. This is a great place to start if students are hesitant to write or are always saying, “I can’t think of what to write about!” When students leave, they will have many story and essay ideas. Materials will be provided electronically. Each week, a writing assignment will be given and when class meets again, students will have the opportunity to share their writings. This class is designed to associate writing with fun so that a positive relationship with writing will be established.
Payments must be received at least 24 hours before the course begins. Please include course title (including any book titles) in comments field when purchasing courses.
Each week, we'll play word games and practice writing together before we begin explicit instruction.
Week One: We'll familiarize ourselves with how to stretch sounds to write what we hear. This week will find us doing writing exercises to get our thinking going.
Week Two: This week we are going to work on our descriptions. Students will learn how to stretch simple sentences to include descriptions.
Week Three: We will continue to work on writing to prompts and writing to stretch our imagination.
Week Four: In this last week, we'll learn about adding dimensions to our stories with illustrations and we might even make some comics, too! We'll also have the opportunity to share any writing in our publishers' party!
